Why does layne bryant and other plus size stores use small models?

Question: Why does layne bryant and other plus size stores use small models?

(Posted by: education, not ignorance on 2008-04-05 17:23:00)

Why does Layne Bryant and Romans and other clothing stores for plus size woman, use non- plus size models for their catalogs when the clothes will look different on smaller woman than it will plus size woman? Edit - Nat, sorry, but they are not plus size. size 12 is not considered a plus size clothes. the clothes on 12 and lower will lay nicer and shape the body differently in a size 12 or lower than a 16, 18, 20 etc. this is mis leading to their customer base. btw~ feel free to star the question. thanks

Beacuse they are stupid. Maybe beacuse they dont want the larger women to look at the clothes and think - these will make me look big - rather than small.

My mother and aunt get those catalogs, and I can say after looking through them (and having some experience with the modeling industry) that most of them don't use small models. (Especially not Lane Bryant). Their models are considered plus size by industry standards... thats a size 12 and up. The thing about being a plus size model is that you will never see models who have rolls of flab... all plus size models have to be size proportionate because they model bathing suits and lingerie. That means a larger sized curvy hourglass shaped woman is what youre going to see, maybe with some cellulite, but never a model with rolls.

That's so stupid. I never knew this until about a week ago. I saw a Layne Bryant catalog and I though it was a joke. I don't think ONE of the women in the magazine was more than a size 6.

They are plus size models. Some women just hold their weight better than others. That means they might be a size 18 but they arent chunky or anything. They are just big and they hold themselves very well. They also dont just use one size of plus size. They use the biggest of plus size in the industry along with the smallest size that is considered plus size to model their clothes.

I do not know why, I am a size 2, and bigger women can look just as nice, and if I was a plus size I would want to know how it would look on me, Not some of those little women they have in there. Come on Fashion Industry, give it a try and we might see heavier women look better when they actually see what it might look like on them.
