Question: Why do so many advertisers of plus size fashions still use skinny models?

Http:/ / www.harrods.com/ HarrodsStore/ find/ c/ women, ladiesplus I find this very disappointing. Surely there are enough appropriate sized models to advertise the clothes, right? How can those models be plus size with the way their collarbones stick out? Unless it's photoshopped maybe? Actually, I would prefer to see clothes modeled on someone who is actually and verifably plus size (Size 18 or higher) and I would be more inclined to purchase rather than on a size 8 or 10 calling themselves "plus size. Ya...I went on a website which offered underwear and bra's for women with small boobs..when I looked the bra's were ALL modelled by women with big busts! Ridicuous....how can I see how it will look on me if they all have big boobs? |

Idk. i guess when people see a normal sized model they compare to the typical anorexic model and call her/ him fat. its annoying though and i am totally with you! |

I know exactly what you mean! I always wonder about that. They should at least put some average sized girls on it. but seeing as it is for plus sized girls why wouldn't they use plus size models, theres nothing wrong with themm. |

Well from a markerting point of view, when you use more of a "Skinny " person, it attracts more to the shopper because thats what they are told to be attracted to. But I really do agree, if they are labeling something "Plus size " they should use an appropiate model for it, because if they really tried and werent just lazy, they could really make "Plus models " hot and the shopper would be attracted to them like they are with a "Skinny " model. |

This is just my belief: I think they believe their product looks better that way and it would be easier to sell. I don't agree with it. I gained 50 pounds and I find it not fair sometimes. |

My guess is as good as yours. It would be nice to be able to at least get an idea how my girlfriend would look in certain types of clothes before I decide to purchase them for her, and it's really hard to do that when it's some girl who is size zero modeling in these so called plus size clothing. |

I didn't look at the picture but I've noticed this other places as well. The thing is that in modeling they consider 10/ 12 or over to be plus-size so they usually just use a size 10/ 12 model buuuuut models are also really tall which makes them look so much thinner than the "average " woman. |

Unfortunately, it's the way of the world. No matter how society seems to "accept " all types and shapes of women, plus size models are delegated to the pages of Sears magazines. It is truly enough to make you sick. Supermodels are freaks of nature to begin with....Women dont look like that normally. We are holding ourselves up to a ridiculous standard. It's like wrinkle creme commercials where the women are all 25....Geeze Louise! |

I think it's a psychological tool. Even though a person may be over weight, they still think they would look like the model. So it's a sales ploy. I see clothes in a catalog and think I would look good in it but then when I get it, I look fat. Even though I don't look like I used to something inside me still thinks I am thin. I do believe that the pictures you showed, that those models are heavier than most. You probably wouldn't buy it if it was a fat person. |

They ARE plus sized. They're likely right on the edge. Thing is, they're also all 6'3 " or so. I have friends that are plus sized but they don't have rolls of fat. One of my friends is EASILY plus sized and her stomach is compoletlely flat.. her whole family is big, and she's just big boned. You can tell those women don't have a tiny waist. ibet they're plus, they're just not huge. They're very well-proportioned. |

It is all about selling clothes! Fashion houses do not have any preference nor dislike for any physical shape. Their preferences are cued by the consumer reaction. Skinny models show the clothes better. Models with more weight show themselves better. The preference of the fashion houses is to show the clothes and sell them. |
